Digital Bridge Unit

Assistive devicesThe digital divide refers to the gap between those who have access to and can effectively use information technology and those who do not.  This impact can be seen in three areas, the THREE C’s – Connectivity, Capability, Content.

The Digital Bridge Unit (DBU) was established by the Information Economy Directorate to address these issues and analyse new trends and priority areas.

Role of Digital Bridge Unit

To assist in reducing the socially and economically divisive nature of technologies through encouraging the use of technology within disadvantaged groups by:

  • improvement of physical access (connectivity)
  • increased skill levels  (capability)
  • more applications linked to service needs (content)

The Unit primarily provides support and advice to Government agencies, private sector and community groups.  This may be in the form of:

  • Facilitating access to State and Commonwealth Government Programs
  • Consulting on the establishment of community based training programs that have demonstrated success
  • Advising on the design and accessibility of Government on-line services
