South Australian Broadband Development Fund

2004 - Current

Broadband Development Fund (BDF) has helped fund completed projects on Kangaroo Island, Coorong, Yorke Peninsula (Stages 1 and 2), Salisbury and Barossa and Light; backhaul from Port Lincoln to Whyalla and Port Augusta. Projects supported by the BDF but yet to be completed include backhaul from Mt Gambier to Bordertown. Funding support has also been committed to the Berri-Murray Bridge-Pt Pirie project under the Clever Networks program.

Future use of the program will be to drive high speed broadband services into the remaining unserved areas of South Australia (including metropolitan Adelaide) not addressed by Federal initiatives such as OPEL and to complement and leverage such Federal programs where appropriate.

The Directorate has worked collaboratively with the Land management Corporation to develop a strategy for broadband provision in ‘greenfield’ housing and commercial/industrial developments.  This has seen the first Fibre-to-the-home projects in Lochiel Park reach fruition.
